Clear, concise definitions for the fundamental terms used across our Chandrashtama guides and calculations.
Chandrashtama
Chandrashtama occurs when the transiting Moon passes through the 8th house (Ashtama) from your birth moon sign (Janma Rasi). In Vedic Astrology, this period of roughly 2.25 days per month is considered a time for caution, as the mind (represented by the Moon) may feel more vulnerable or sensitive.
Janma Rasi
Your Janma Rasi is the zodiac sign where the Moon was positioned at the exact time of your birth. Unlike the Sun-based "Star Signs" common in Western astrology, Vedic astrology prioritizes the Rasi for emotional and psychological mapping.
Nakshatra
A Nakshatra is a lunar mansion. The 360-degree zodiac is divided into 27 Nakshatras, each covering 13 degrees and 20 minutes. Your birth star (Janma Nakshatra) is determined by the specific Nakshatra the Moon was in at your birth.
Ashtama Sthana
The 8th house in an individual's birth chart or transit map. It represents challenges, sudden changes, and transformations. Chandrashtama is specifically linked to the Moon's movement through this 8th house.
Pariharam (Remedy)
Spiritual or practical actions taken to mitigate the challenging effects of planetary transits. For Chandrashtama, common remedies include meditation, chanting moon mantras, or visiting specific temples to calm the mind.
